2008 – An Unforgettable Year!

 Recently our 2008 eight-medal winning Olympic swimming champion smoked pot for the first time at a Michigan hotel.  His reaction was a bit boisterous – the stoned Phelps broke all the televisions in his room, but later bought exact replicas so he could replace them before anybody at the hotel was the wiser.  But we have to forgive Mr. Phelps since he’s been in training for most of his 23 years and this is the first time he has let loose.

Not too long ago we learned that Martha Stewart used a hand model for close-up shots in her latest book since she deemed her own hands too wrinkled. 

 Last week the still very, very sexy Susan Sarandon had her first face-lift. Susan is the mother of the statuesque and stunning 23 year old Eva Amurri.

We can’t speak of 2008 without talking politics, politics and more politics.  This year was filled with characters, clichés and catchphrases!

 It started early when Governor Spitzer of New York was identified as ‘Client # 9’ and ended in November when Jesse Jackson Jr. was identified as ‘Candidate # 5’ in the Governor Blagojevich investigation – you can’t make this stuff up!

 The year also started with a no drama Obama campaign and came full circle with an all drama Rahm Emanuel for Obama’s White House Chief-of-Staff.  Rahm gets the job done and that’s huge. It will be good to have a little ‘safe’ drama in the White House.  It’s only fair since Obama doesn’t give the late shows and comedians food for fodder – Rahm will.

57 Days to Election – What YOU Can Do

 The RNC so far has NOT talked about issues that Americans want to talk about that are important to us: health care, education, finance, energy solutions, etc.  They don’t have a plan and are not interested in any plan other than continuing George W. Bush’s FAILED plans of the last 8 years – and you KNOW where that has gotten us.

Even if your income increased, are you better today than you were 8 years ago?  Do you have more money saved? Is your 401K account growing? Did you loose your job? Do you have good health care? Is your child’s school operating effectively – do they have enough books and supplies?

We are NEAR the end of this election cycle.  In 57 days this will ALL be over.  We’ll either have President Obama or McCain (God forbid!!!).

We ALL have to re-energize our self so we can win this race.  Don’t be discouraged by the polls.  In Electoral College polls Obama is leading (Electoral College votes in what counts in the general elections).

 The Electoral College is a body of 538 popularly elected representatives who formally select the President and Vice President of the United States. In America we really have an indirect election.

Rather than directly voting for the President and Vice President, we cast votes for electors who in turn cast formal votes for the President and Vice President.

 This is what you can do starting today: please volunteer with Team Obama in your community (Florida for Change, Georgia for Change, California for Change, Texas for Change, NY for Change, etc). 

You don’t have to be a citizen or need to be over 18 to volunteer.  Even if YOU personally can’t vote you can volunteer and help to register people to vote and that’s VERY important. I am encouraging EVERYONE reading this to personally register a least 5 people and make sure your 5 get to the polls on Tuesday, November 4. 

It’s been reported that 1/3 of Americans who are eligible to vote are NOT even registered!!!  That means every one of us knows a couple of people we can register to vote.  EVERY vote counts!!!

Introducing MICHELLE OBAMA — Phenomenal Woman!!!

  Michelle Obama (nee Robinson) was born on January 17, 1964 – she’s 44 years old.  She was raised by her parents.  Her Father suffered from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the central nervous system (CNS). MS can cause numerous physical and mental symptoms, and often progresses to physical and cognitive disability. Despite suffering from MS Mr. Robinson worked and supported his family and rarely took a day off. Her Mother Marian Robinson stayed home and nurtured her family.

 Michelle was raised in a one-bedroom apartment on Chicago’s South Shore, a predominantly black neighborhood. The South Side has mostly single-family homes and has endured a reputation as being poor and crime-infested.  The neighborhood ranges from impoverished to working class mostly blue collar residents.

Michelle shared a “bedroom” with her brother Craig, but it wasn’t much of a bedroom. It was actually the living room with a divider down the middle since the family could not afford a larger apartment.

  Michelle’s parents demanded academic excellence and Michelle and her brother excelled in school.  After high school Michelle received a scholarship to Princeton where she majored in sociology.

Princeton was Michelle’s first step into a diverse America since before then her life was centered around Chicago’s South Shore.

 Michelle arrived at Princeton before her roommate.  When her roommate, a white southerner, arrived on campus her roommate’s mother was in shock and angry that her daughter would have a black roommate and immediately requested that her daughter get a different roommate.

I was not at Princeton with Michelle Obama but I can imagine some of her experiences at blue blood Princeton.  She must have been shunned too many times to remember, most likely wasn’t asked to join a sorority and was most likely excluded from most social activities.  But she persevered and graduated with cum laude honors in 1985.

From there she attended Harvard where she earned her law degree in 1988, one year ahead of her husband-to-be, Barack, whom she hadn’t met as yet even though they attended the same law school.

The Obama Family Heads to Hawaii For A Week’s Vacation; Hillary Clinton Will Campaign For Obama While He’s Away

  Barack Obama, his wife Michelle and their two beautiful young daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7 left Chicago for Hawaii earlier today – the state where Obama grew up and where his grandmother, who helped raise him, still lives. The Obamas will spend a week in a house they rented. 

I think this is a great idea – Obama needs some rest.  He must be burned-out, physically and emotionally.  He needs to regroup and come back strong.

Obama acknowledged some concern about taking time off but said that was offset by the need for some family time and a desire to visit his grandmother, who does not travel.

His campaign in conjunction with his family who lives in Hawaii have organized a welcome rally at a local park as well as a round of interviews. He is also expected to attend a fundraiser next week. Obama’s vacation will include mostly downtime, though. Other than enjoying the beach and watching the Olympics, he will spend some time with his grandmother, who helped raise him in Honolulu in the 1970s.

“I want to make sure that I’m spending time with her and I want to make sure she gets to spend time with her great grandchildren,” he said yesterday.

Bill Clinton Ready To Hit The Road And Campaign For Obama

  Bill Clinton said today that he is ‘eager’ and raring to go and hit the trail and campaign for Obama whenever the presumed Democratic nominee needs him.  Bill also said that he has not given any thought to whether he wants to speak at the party convention in Denver. (I think Bill should speak the first night and Chelsea should introduce Hillary on the second night).

“I told him that whenever he wanted me to do it, I was ready, and so it’s basically on their timetable,” Clinton said. “He’s got a lot of things to do between now and the convention, of which this is simply one, so I’ll do whatever I’m asked to do, whenever I can do it.”

Relations between Clinton and Obama have only just begun to d-e-f-r-o-s-t since Obama defeated the former president’s wife in the bruising Democratic primary. Throughout the race which was more like a street fight, Bill Clinton portrayed Obama as too inexperienced to be president.

Since Obama clinched the nomination, it has remained an open question as to what role Bill Clinton would play in the campaign.

Just weeks ago, Obama called the former president to ask for his help in winning the White House.

Hillary Clinton Distances Herself From Hillraisers

  This is a very insightful article. 

Some former top Hillary Clinton fundraisers have received attention in recent days for thus far declining to help bundle donations for Barack Obama. But none of those figures was actively working against Obama’s candidacy. Ricki Lieberman is another matter.

Also a former Clinton “Hillraiser” (meaning she raised more than $100,000 for the campaign), Lieberman is keeping her own private hope alive with a daily email blast to supporters, entitled “Electability Watch,” which features a cascade of negative articles and other items about Obama as a means to argue that superdelegates should change their minds in Denver and crown Clinton the nominee instead. A tipster who described them as “disgusting” sent a batch of recent “Electability Watch” emails to the Huffington Post. Their authenticity was confirmed in a phone conversation with Ms. Lieberman, who said her only desire is to “see a Democratic president in the White House” next year.

Any Democrat, perhaps, except Barack Obama — or “BO aka Bush 3,” as Lieberman repeatedly refers to him. The emails sometimes go out of their way to parrot some of the most hardcore attacks on Obama, including comments comparing Obama’s planned nomination speech to Nazi-era rallies in Germany. In one email, she quotes messages from apparent Holocaust survivors:

I have heard from many Survivors and their children about the symbolism and implications of use of rules to undermine our core democratic values. Ellen Mendel wrote that “I was born under Hitler in Germany, and reading about the plans for the Obama throng in the stadium in Denver and the implications which have been spelled out, gives me the chills…the DNC will deliver the country to Obama on a platter. I wonder when it will hit them what pawns they have been in this Faustian tragedy.

                                                                          
Another, “As someone who escaped from France during WW ll, I hope that I’m not being over dramatic when I’m more than uneasy with stuff like Obama’s possible Denver stadium theatrics and the calibrated negotiations going on about the convention.”

Other emails from Lieberman cite Obama’s “alliances with a cast of characters include Louis Farrakhan,” and urge people to contact the German embassy to protest “Obama’s grandiose, inappropriate hope” to speak at the Brandenburg Gate.

In an interview, Lieberman said it is incumbent upon the party’s superdelegates to take another cold, hard look at which candidate will be more electable in the fall. Given that neither Obama nor Clinton managed to win enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination, a switch from Obama to Clinton is a technical possibility that nevertheless seems highly improbable.
