The Obamas Will Use Their Own Money To Redecorate The White House

first-couple  What a great example the Obama’s are setting! New presidents have traditionally undertaken extensive redecoration efforts to their personal quarters reflect their own tastes, with a new Oval Office rug tradition ringing in as the priciest item.

The Obamas have decided to use their own money to redecorate the White House residence and Oval Office.  They have turn down the $100,000 in federal funds that is traditionally allotted to new presidents for such renovation projects.

The first couple has also turned down money from the White House Historical Association, the organization that financed a $74,000 set of china for the Bushes.

Former President George W. Bush spent over $60,000 on a new cream carpet designed by Laura Bush in 2000 to replace the deep blue rug that covered the space during the Clinton administration. Obama aides have said the president likes the Bush rug, and does not plan to replace it.

The Obama’s designer Michael Smith said that their casual style, their interest in bringing 20th Century American artists to the forefront and utilizing affordable brands and products will serve as a guide for his team to make the residence feel like their home.

This couple has incredible class, grace and finesse!

  1. He is exceptionally classy in comparison to our previous presidents. He has already proven to us how remarkable he is. These are the most commons decisions that contribute to a solid foundation.

  2. That’s interesting (as I didn’t catch this one). Noble yes .. classy yes … but I’ve got a bit of devil’s advocate here, … but it doesn’t put a dent in the pork bills he signed … CAUTION readers … I didn’t say that to take the conversation in another direction.

The Obamas are classy people and to my amazement, there are those loving to compare him to Stalin and Hitler. That’s sorry .. very sorry.

    Thanks Paulette for the info.

    • Frank, I read somewhere that the Obamas are grand standing by not accepting the $100K. 😮

      Different strokes, for different folks.

  3. Grandstanding. ha ha … definitely said by a partisan. Bottom line, the dollars are a drop in the bucket, but in the budget! (Well, at least I hope so).

What do see real grandstanding — just tune into C-SPAN and watch a hearing. Especially if the Finance Committee is on. They’ve got grandstanding down to an art at this point.

  5. I love that they did that. Most would see 100,000 as nothing compared to current situation, and compared to what other administrations paid for the same thing, but the Obama’s value the dollar. And it isn’t just symbolic, 100,000 is a lot of money. If one or two families could be saved by an amount of money, then even though it may not go directly there, it is a start – a savings. The AIG bonuses are looked at, by some, as a pittance, in comparison to the dire economic crisis where in, but that is just the same old perspective, living in the same old culture of greed, credit, worry tomorrow, worry about ourselves. This country avoided a collective sense of hopelessness by electing Barack Obama.
