57 Days to Election – What YOU Can Do

The RNC so far has NOT talked about issues that Americans want to talk about that are important to us: health care, education, finance, energy solutions, etc.  They don’t have a plan and are not interested in any plan other than continuing George W. Bush’s FAILED plans of the last 8 years – and you KNOW where that has gotten us.

Even if your income increased, are you better today than you were 8 years ago?  Do you have more money saved? Is your 401K account growing? Did you loose your job? Do you have good health care? Is your child’s school operating effectively – do they have enough books and supplies?

We are NEAR the end of this election cycle.  In 57 days this will ALL be overWe’ll either have President Obama or McCain (God forbid!!!).

We ALL have to re-energize our self so we can win this race.  Don’t be discouraged by the polls.  In Electoral College polls Obama is leading (Electoral College votes in what counts in the general elections).

The Electoral College is a body of 538 popularly elected representatives who formally select the President and Vice President of the United States. In America we really have an indirect election.

Rather than directly voting for the President and Vice President, we cast votes for electors who in turn cast formal votes for the President and Vice President.

This is what you can do starting today: please volunteer with Team Obama in your community (Florida for Change, Georgia for Change, California for Change, Texas for Change, NY for Change, etc).

You don’t have to be a citizen or need to be over 18 to volunteer.  Even if YOU personally can’t vote you can volunteer and help to register people to vote and that’s VERY important. I am encouraging EVERYONE reading this to personally register a least 5 people and make sure your 5 get to the polls on Tuesday, November 4.

It’s been reported that 1/3 of Americans who are eligible to vote are NOT even registered!!!  That means every one of us knows a couple of people we can register to vote.  EVERY vote counts!!!

If you know someone who has JUST turned 18 – they CAN vote.  Dial the phone for them – use you cell if necessary and have them call:

1-866-MYVOTE1 or 1 -866-698-6831. They can register OVER THE PHONE.

Or go to http://www.rockthevote.org/ and help them to register to vote.

You don’t have to be a citizen or 18 to help to register people to vote.  If you volunteer for Obama you can do a lot even if you’re not a citizen or if you’re under 18.

In my Florida for Change office we’re focusing on registering voters and making calls right now.  All campaign offices nationwide are going to need LOTS of help on Election Day to get people out to the polls, etc.  I have personally taken Election Day off so that I can drive people to the polls.

If you would like to volunteer register at: http://www.barackobama.com/index.php

Just select your ‘state’ and join your state chapter.

Or text “HOPE” to 62262 (OBAMA).

We’re near the end of this journey. Please stay focused.  If we do this TOGETHER we will stand on top of the mountain – white, black, yellow, brown, red and everything in between — TOGETHER.

But please volunteer if you can – that MATTERS a lot!

And IF you are a NATURALIZED citizen please REGISTER to vote.

If you are already registered to vote; please make sure you know where your physical voter registration card is.  There will be LOTS of trickery on November 4 and it will be important to have your voter registration card even if you’ve never needed it before.

IF you can’t find your voter registration card go to http://www.rockthevote.org/ and re-register.  It will give you the option to get a copy of your registration card.

Please help by participating.

If you can, “VOTE EARLY” this will alleviate being denied your right to vote at the polls.  EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

I am EVEN MORE fired up and ready to go!!!

  1. Paulette, quit trying to raise the issues. McCain’s campaign manager said this election is not about the issues. What are you, a whiner? McCain was a POW and Palin loves Jesus. That’s ALL you need to know.

  5. P — this is really powerful, and serves as a reminder to all of us: don’t wait for them to lose, do everything in OUR power to win.

  6. Exactly Heather – we have LOTS of responsibility in this process as well. I have called most everyone I know to ask them to register 5 people – even my Mum and Dad. Have you registered 5??? I am encouraging people to multi-task: register while at the spa, salon, restaurants. Keep a few Voter Registration forms on you at all times and if you get into a friendly conversation with someone just ask if they’re registered – if no, BAM! I know I sound uhm…crazy, but whatever. These are serious times.

If McCain gets in I see a personal move to Europe because I won’t be able to afford to live in the US and I don’t want to do that. So I’m looking out for myself. 🙂

Register and take 5 people to the polls on Nov 4!

  7. Paulette, i’m hearing the emigrant tune from everyone if the gop claims the white house again. it’s scary times. i’ve donated again, registered to make phone calls, and am having a registration party for my nephews’ 20-something friends. I’m committed to doing all i can. tell kerri i might have to defer my dreams as expressed on sirius til next year as this year is dedicated to putting the Obamas in the white house. love your work, keep it up!

  8. WOW! I LOVE the idea of a party for 20-somethings! Brilliant!!!

Heather I am deferring many things until next year as well – I’ve committed to maxing out my donation to Obama and other political initiatives this year – it’s THAT serious to me!

We have our GRAND OPENING of the Florida for Change office I volunteer in. Yeah!!!

I take home registration forms most evenings and log them from home and I am AMAZED that we’re getting first times voters who were born in the late 1930s, 1940s and a tremendous amount of youngsters just turning 18. We have one young volunteer that works the hardest and doesn’t seem to go home and he’s not even 18!

As I was walking out the door this evening a car pulled up and four ladies of a certain age (80s) walked in to volunteer. I had to pick my mouth up off the floor. They had gone out to the early bird special dinner and decided that they were going to volunteer for Obama. It’s a beautiful thing to behold. There’s a continuous flow of people just walking in to sit down and chat and have a community experience and talk issues. MANY of them are over 50, white and Jewish and this is Florida so it means a lot. It is beauteous! (Made up word)

I think I’m going to ‘bite’ your idea and try to host something for the 20-somethings in the next 2 weeks. DAMN good idea! 🙂

Keep up the GREAT work and share your ideas PLEASE. We have until September 29 to pretty much wrap up voter registration (the drop dead date is Oct 6 in FL) and I want to exhaust everything I can do.

If we post ideas others might find them of interest and follow suit.

And I am QUITE serious about moving to Great Britain or Europe. I would not subject myself to McCain’s leadership.

    xo!
This is our chance – this is it. We’ve got to carpe diem!!!
